National Science Foundation Data Management Plans

The National Science Foundation requires all grant proposals to include a supplemental data management plan, two pages or less.

General Guidelines

Note: Use the following guidelines if the Directorate you are submitting your NSF grant proposal to has no specific guidelines (see NSF General Guidelines and DMP Tool).

  1. Types of data, samples, physical collections, software, curriculum materials, and other materials to be produced in the course of the project
  2. Standards for data and metadata format and content
  3. Access and sharing policies (including provisions for appropriate protection of privacy, confidentiality, security, intellectual property, or other rights or requirements)
  4. Policies and provisions for reuse and redistribution
  5. Plans for archiving data, samples, and other research products, and for preservation of access to them

Your data management plan may consist of a statement that no detailed plan is needed, as long as a clear justification is provided.
